The heat-affected zone is the region where the microstructure and mechanical properties of the material change due to the effects of heat (without melting) during the welding process. The microstructure and properties of the weld metal resulting from recrystallisation are related to the chemical composition of the weld, the cooling rate, and the post-weld heat treatment.
