01 Difficulties in dealing with cracks in side panels

The frame structure of the vibrating screen is riveted to each other with the help of riveting bolts, if you replace the cracked side plate, that is, the side plate shown in Figure 1, firstly, you have to remove hundreds of riveting bolts on the side plate, which is a huge amount of work; and secondly, you have to replace the side plate and then riveted again, which is just like reassembling a screen. There was neither the space nor the time to do so.

If a simple welding process is carried out, which involves the addition of a plate (as shown in Figure 2), given that there is no way to eliminate the welding stresses in the side plates, not only will it not work well under vibration conditions, but it will also lead to an increase in the extension of the cracks or to the appearance of other new cracks.

02 Side panel crack treatment technology

The main technology is for the side plate processing ah, that is, welding requirements, and weld processing, as well as increase the reinforcement plate to riveting it. For the cracks on the side plate, to go through the necessary cleaning, but also after shaping, and then bevelling welding, welding is completed to eliminate stress, and then clean up the weld, grinding, and finally covered with reinforcing plate, riveted bolts riveted, and then carried out for the local strengthening treatment.

03 Specific treatment

(1) Firstly, the hexagonal bolt coupling in the cracked area was checked for reliability. Then, remove the riveted bolts from the angles on both sides of the side plate as well as the upper reinforcing plate, followed by checking the condition of the damage between the angles and the mating surfaces on the plate. Finally, when the surfaces were satisfactory, it was ensured that the cracked ends of the side plate were aligned, see Figure 3.

(2) Grind a bevel along the centre of the crack, over the entire length (inside of the sieve), see Figure 4.

(3) Weld the cracks perpendicular to the direction of the screen plate, without swinging the welding torch, and divide it into 2 sections to carry out the welding work, and use the needle gun to strike after each weld to eliminate the stress and slag, see Fig. 5.

(4) Weld continuously vertically, striking each weld with a pin gun until the weld is complete, see Figure 6.

(5) Trim and polish welds until the surface is flat and flush with the surface of the side plate, see Figure 7.

(6) Grinding of the welds is carried out on the outside of the screen, to minimise the amount of grinding at the weld, just clean the weld and make the base material of the side plate visible, and then carry out the welding as if it were on the inside, corresponding to Figs. 8 and 9, respectively.

(7) Sand the outside of the side panels flat, see Figure 10.

(8) Grind and shape the hole at the top of the side plate, which is on the weld seam, making sure that all burrs have been removed and that there are no defects of grooves and dents, which can be seen in the relevant diagram in Fig. 11.

(9) In the finishing area, sand the coatings cleanly, then apply primer to the side panels and primer to the reinforcing panels, on both sides. Next, place the reinforcement plates on the inside of the screen and install as many bolts as possible. The reinforcing plate is going to cover both sides of the weld repair area, see, just like in Figure 12. The dashed part of the picture is the reinforcement plate.

(10) After the bolts have been tightened, holes are drilled in the reinforcing plate to ensure that the cracks are covered, and the riveted bolts are fitted into the holes and tightened, as in Fig. 13.

(11) The repair area is located at the top of the side panels, which is sanded, as are the angles and the inside of the side panels, which are then primed. The inner angle is reinforced with a reinforcement plate, which is riveted by at least three riveting bolts on each side of the weld, as shown in Figure 14.

(12) After all riveted bolts have been riveted, apply topcoat to the repaired area. After the paint has dried, seal the perimeter of the reinforcement plate with SIKA adhesive to prevent corrosion.

There is a solution that is simple and easy to implement and saves time. At present, after the repair of the screen machine, have been running for some years, there is no more cracks, through the practice of this maintenance programme has confirmed the feasibility and reliability.
